You do not need a professional camera. Clear light, a readable silhouette and a subject that does not disappear into the background matter more.
Start with the subject, not the resolution
A portrait, an animal’s head or a clear silhouette is easier to read from lines than a wide scene full of small objects. Resolution helps, but it cannot fix a face that blends into the background.
- let the face or object fill much of the frame
- keep the key features sharp
- avoid a background with the same brightness as the subject
Light creates the detail
String Art depends on tonal differences. A very dark face loses features, while blown highlights remove shape. Soft front or side light is usually the safest choice.
- avoid strong backlight
- check the eyes, nose and outline at a small preview size
- avoid heavy skin-smoothing filters
The preview is the final test
Two similar photos can produce very different patterns. Upload both, use a similar crop and compare the previews. Choose the one that is readable before you start threading.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is a phone photo good enough?+
Yes. A sharp, well-lit phone photo is usually enough. A clear subject matters more than the camera model.
Do I always have to remove the background?+
No. Keep it if it is calm and contrasts with the subject. Removing a busy background usually makes the portrait clearer.
